Audio editing for voice and music recordings

WavePad Audio Editor is a sound editor for voice and music recordings, which the developer, NCH Software, calls a full-featured professional tool. It works mainly with WAV and MP3 files and also opens several other audio formats.

The listing points to people who record narration, music or other sound and need to trim it or clean it up before sharing.

Recording and cutting audio

You can record voice and music directly in the app, then work on the result. Editing tools include cut, copy, paste, delete and insert, plus silence, auto-trim, compression and pitch shifting.

Edits are non-destructive, so changes are applied as edits rather than overwriting the original audio, according to the listing.

Effects and noise removal

The effects list covers amplify, normalize, an equalizer, envelope, reverb, echo and reverse, with more beyond those. Amplify and normalize change the volume of a clip, while the equalizer adjusts tone.

For recordings with background hiss or unwanted sound, the app includes noise reduction. It also has click and pop removal for crackle in older or noisy recordings.

Supported audio file formats and settings

Supported formats include MP3, WAV (PCM), WAV (GSM) and AIFF, and the listing says the app handles several others as well. It is built around WAV and MP3 in particular.

On the settings side, the listing gives sample rates from 6 to 192 kHz, stereo or mono output, and 8, 16, 24 or 32 bit depth. These are the values you can work with when you save or convert a file.

Sound effect library and sharing

The app includes a sound effect library of hundreds of effects, along with royalty-free music clips. These can be added to your own recordings.

The description also says the app is for sharing the audio you edit, though it does not list the sharing options in detail.
