What this WiFi transfer app is for
WiFi/WLAN Plugin for Totalcmd runs a small Web and WebDAV server on an Android phone or tablet. Other devices on the same wireless network connect to that server and move files over it. It was built as a plugin for Total Commander, but it also runs on its own.
It suits people who want to copy files between two Android devices, or between an Android device and a computer, without uploading anything to a cloud service. The listing says data stays inside your own wireless LAN.
Starting a server and connecting to it
The app creates a server URL that you can either scan as a QR code or type in by hand. Scanning is the quicker route between two Android phones, and typing the address works for a computer on the same network.
The listing describes direct HTTP connections over WiFi. The other device needs only a web browser or a WebDAV client to reach the files.
Sending files, text and links from other apps
You do not need Total Commander to use the standalone mode. Select files in any file manager, or pick text or a URL, and use the Android share menu to send it to the WiFi plugin. The app then starts a server and shows the URL and QR code for it.
This is the path for a one-off send. Share a photo or a document from the file manager, scan the code on the receiving phone, and the file is available there.
Using a computer browser or WebDAV client
When a computer opens the server in a web browser, it can browse and access the shared files through the page. WebDAV clients can also mount the server, which lets desktop file tools treat it like a remote folder.
The browser page shows a link to Total Commander in the upper right corner. The listing notes that the Play Store treats this link as an ad, although the app itself contains none.
Using it with Total Commander
Used as a plugin, the WiFi server is driven from Total Commander, the file manager it was written for. The same web and WebDAV access then covers the folders you already manage there.
The standalone mode and the plugin share the same server, so a transfer started from either side reaches the same network clients.
