What ドリフトスピリッツ is and who it suits
ドリフトスピリッツ is a racing game from Bandai Namco Entertainment built around one-on-one drift battles. You control the car by tapping and sliding on the touchscreen, drifting through corners and firing nitro on straights. The series is also called ドリスピ in the developer's own text.
It suits people who want short, arcade-style races on a phone, with a clear goal of climbing to the fastest rank. Most of the game is about winning races against opponents, so the modes below are where most of the time goes.
Battle modes: story, VS, weekday and real-time
Story Battle moves you through areas, each with its own run of skilled drivers to beat in races, ending with a legendary driver known as the Emperor. VS Battle pits you against another player's saved data in a one-on-one match. Weekday Battle changes its reward each day of the week, so the part you earn depends on when you play.
RTB, the real-time mode, puts you against drivers across the country. It has three parts: free battles for quick matches, room battles to play with friends, and rank battles that pay monthly rewards as you move up the ranks.
Upgrading cars with parts and customizing looks
The game includes popular car models from manufacturers in Japan and overseas. You combine and reinforce parts to build a stronger setup for each car, which the developer says can be pushed to its strongest specification.
Upgrading a car's grade unlocks options for its paint color and wing, so the way a car looks changes alongside how it performs. Parts from Weekday Battle are one way to get the pieces needed for these upgrades.
Music and sound during races
The background music for battles is written for the game by well-known artists, according to the developer. The soundtrack is meant to raise the tension of a race, and the game encourages you to turn the volume up while you play.
Sound is part of the battle itself rather than a separate menu option, so it is most noticeable during the races that make up every mode.
