Built-in browser that opens pages and logs you in
Encrypted export file and import from BlackBerry 10 devices

What the app is and who it is for

The listing states that BlackBerry Password Keeper requires BlackBerry Hub+ Services, and that it is part of BlackBerry Hub+. It also states that the app reached its end of life on 28 February 2022. After that date, the developer says there will be no new versions and no support from BlackBerry.

The app is a password vault. It stores passwords, login details and other records in one place, locked with a password you choose. The listing names email and social accounts, online banking and work applications as the sort of logins it is meant to hold.

On paper, the app suits someone who has many accounts with different password rules and wants them in one locked store. The listing is written for that use, and it does not describe any other purpose.

Storing logins, notes and records in the vault

The vault is opened with a single master password. The listing says the contents are protected with AES-256 encryption.

Inside the vault you can save passwords, lists and notes. You can edit existing items and mark any item as a favourite so it is easier to find.

The listing also describes this as a place for important records, not only logins. It does not list specific record types beyond passwords, lists and notes.

Generating and checking passwords

The app can generate random passwords. The listing presents this as a way to replace weak passwords with new ones that are unique to each account.

A password strength meter checks the passwords you have stored. The listing gives no detail on how the meter scores a password or what rules it applies.

Together, the generator and the meter are the parts of the app that deal with the passwords themselves, rather than with storing them.

Logging in from the built-in browser and keyboard

The app includes its own browser. You open a web page from inside Password Keeper and log in from there.

On BlackBerry devices only, the listing says the BlackBerry Keyboard can autofill usernames and passwords into web pages and apps. It can also save login details from an app or web page's sign-in screen, so new passwords go into the vault without being typed again.

These two keyboard features depend on a BlackBerry device. On other Android devices, the listing describes no equivalent, and the browser is the only login route it mentions.

Moving records in and out of the vault

You can export Password Keeper records to an encrypted file. The listing says you choose where that file is stored.

Records can also be imported. The listing names imports from a previous BlackBerry 10 device as one case.

The listing also says the app fully supports Android for Work deployment, which means it can be installed and managed through a work profile.
