What LEGO Powered Up is for
LEGO Powered Up is a companion app from LEGO System A/S that runs motorized LEGO models over Bluetooth. It is aimed at people who own a Powered Up-compatible set and want to drive it from a phone or tablet, or who want to build their own motorized models and program how they behave.
It works in two directions. One is remote control of ready-made sets. The other is building new models from Powered Up components and writing code that makes them move. The listing puts the category as Entertainment and rates the app PEGI 3.
Remote driving the Batmobile and City trains
With the LEGO DC Super Heroes App-Controlled Batmobile (76112) the app steers the four-wheel-drive car forwards, backwards, left and right, and can turn it through 360 degrees. Controls run over Bluetooth to the car's motorized engines.
The app also controls the LEGO City Cargo Train (60198) and the LEGO City Passenger Train (60197) the same way. Those sets are sold separately from the app, so the app only operates them if you own one.
Coding stunts and sounds on the Batmobile
The Batmobile has built-in stunts and tricks that you can activate from the app. You can also customize and code these tricks yourself, so the car performs a sequence you have set up rather than a single preset move.
Sounds and movements are also adjustable. You choose which sounds play and how the car moves as part of each trick.
Building and coding your own Powered Up models
Beyond the listed sets, the app is built for constructing new models out of LEGO Powered Up components and bringing them to life with code. It is not limited to the Batmobile or the trains.
The listing says these models can move and respond to real-world events, so the code you write can react to conditions around the model rather than only to button presses in the app.
