A player that takes its color from the album
Lark Player is changing the look of the screen people watch while a song plays. According to the developer's release notes, the latest update colors the player to match each track's cover art and refines how lyrics are shown. The notes also mention animated playback controls and smoother transitions.
In practice, the player screen should shift in color from one album to the next instead of staying fixed. The developer describes the work as a refresh of the existing player. It does not describe it as a new mode or a setting to switch on, so the new look appears once the app is updated. The changes come in version 2027.1.8. The app's Google Play listing shows it was updated on Oct 29, 2026.
Selecting many songs at once gets quicker
The second change is to library housekeeping. The developer says multi-select is now faster because users can press and drag across a list to pick several items in one motion, where before each item had to be tapped. That helps anyone who builds playlists or clears out old files in bulk.
The notes also say the update fixes technical issues to make playback more stable. The developer does not say which problems were fixed or how widespread they were.
Built for music already on the phone
Lark Player is a free player for audio and video files stored on the device. On Google Play, the developer pitches it as an offline player with an equalizer, lyrics matching for local songs, playlists, a floating playback window and a sleep timer. The app plays common formats such as MP3, FLAC and M4A, as well as videos in MP4 and MKV.
Color has long been part of the app's appeal. On its own website, the developer describes custom themes that let users pick any image or color and switch between day and night modes. The cover-matched player builds on that idea, but here the artwork chooses the colors instead of the user.
The app is clearly not for people who want a streaming catalog. In its Google Play description, the developer states plainly that Lark Player does not download music. It only plays files that are already on the phone, which makes it a better fit for listeners who keep their own MP3 collections than for anyone who has moved entirely to streaming.
