King's long-running candy puzzler offers thousands of levels free and partial offline play, but the listing is coy about what the paid items buy, and it shares your data with ad partners.
3.4 / 5
Candy Crush Saga is King's single-player match-three game. You swap adjacent sweets to line up three or more of a kind, and each level gives you a goal to meet. The developer claims thousands of levels, and says the difficulty climbs as you go.
It is about as widely installed as a mobile game gets. The Play listing claims over 1,000,000,000 installs, and the developer last updated it on 1 October 2026. The build we hold, version 1.338.0.2, reached our archive on 5 October.
The variety comes from objectives and obstacles rather than new mechanics. The listing names level types such as Clear the Jelly, where you match over marked squares, and Rainbow Rapids. It also names blockers like jelly and chocolate that get in the way of your matches.
On top of that sit special candies made from bigger matches, and boosters the developer names as the Color Bomb, the Lollipop Hammer and the Jelly Fish. These are the tools for getting past a stuck board. The listing does not say which of them you earn by playing and which you buy, and that is the question that matters most for a free game.
The game is free to download, and King states that optional in-game items cost money. It also notes that you can switch off purchasing in your device settings, which is a useful safeguard if a child is playing. What the listing never does is describe those items, their prices, or how much they help.
There is also the data question. The listing's own privacy note says King shares your personal information with advertising partners to personalise ads. That is the standing price of playing for free here, and you should know it before installing.
If you want a familiar puzzle game for short breaks, with plenty of content and no sign-in mentioned as a requirement, this is the obvious pick. The partial offline support helps on commutes, though the FAQ only promises that many levels work without a connection, not all of them.
Skip it if open-ended purchases or ad tracking bother you. The daily rewards and limited-time events are built to bring you back every day, which some players will find tiresome. The listing itself points to King's Candy Crush Soda Saga and Farm Heroes Saga as alternatives, and both come from the same developer, so expect a similar model there too.
