What the Schleswig-Holstein Netz app is for
Schleswig-Holstein (SH Netz) is the app of the grid operator Schleswig-Holstein Netz GmbH, published by E.ON Digital Technology GmbH. It is aimed at the operator's electricity and gas customers, who mainly use it to send meter readings, look at their consumption and see their bills. The listing describes the service as free of charge.
The app covers seven areas: meter readings, history, energy data, feed-in, a personal area, messages and a general menu. Most of the day-to-day work is in the first three. A reader who only wants to check a figure or report a reading will find the relevant screen without going through the rest.
Existing customers of the customer portal can log in with the same email address and password they use there. People who are not yet customers can use a guest access option instead.
Submitting a meter reading by camera or photo
The app accepts a meter reading in three ways: typed in by hand, uploaded as a photo, or read automatically with optical character recognition (OCR). The listing presents OCR as the most direct route.
With OCR, the user holds the phone camera in front of the meter and the software reads the number as digits. The listing says no shutter press is needed, and that a reading is recognised within a few seconds.
Once the reading is submitted, the listing says a confirmation arrives by email within a few minutes. This confirmation is the only record of the submission described in the listing.
Checking consumption and past meter readings
The history screen lists every meter reading that the company has recorded in its billing system. It shows the readings the company holds, not just the ones sent through the app.
The energy data screen shows all consumption figures in graphs and tables. Voluntary interim readings are left out of these figures, so the totals reflect the billing readings.
Taken together, the history and energy data screens let a customer compare a reading they have just sent with the figures the company already has on file.
Feed-in plants, advance payments and bills
The feed-in section is for customers with a generating plant that feeds electricity into the grid. It holds the relevant details about that plant.
From the same section, a customer can change their monthly advance payment (Abschlag) and open or download their bills. The listing does not say how far in advance a change takes effect or what limits apply to it.
Bills are therefore reachable from the app as well as the customer portal. Anyone managing both a plant and the account can handle the figures in one place.
Personal details, messages and registration
To create a customer account in the app, the user needs their contract account number and business partner number. The listing describes this account as one that works for both the customer portal and the app.
The personal area shows the stored personal details and lets the customer change them. All messages from the company are collected in one messages section, which the listing says is for customers who have chosen online communication.
Guest access is a separate route. It is for people who are not yet customers, and the listing does not say which parts of the app it covers.
Outages, online shop, FAQ and help
The more section is a menu of extra functions. It includes outage information (Störungsauskunft), an FAQ, an online shop, help and contact details, energy-saving tips, general useful information and an installer search.
The installer search helps a customer find a registered installer. The energy-saving tips and useful information are general material from the company, and the listing gives no further detail on them.
For feedback on the app, the listing gives the email address NetzkundenApp@eon.com. The developer asks users to send their experience there and invites reviews on Google Play.
