What the Screenshot app is for

Screenshot is a tool for taking screenshots on a phone or tablet and keeping them organised afterwards. The developer presents it as a simple way to capture and manage screen images, and it is listed under Tools on Google Play.

The app covers two jobs: getting the capture, and then finding and handling the saved images. People who take screenshots often and want more control over when and how they capture would be the most likely audience.

Timed and triggered screen captures

A delay can be set in seconds, so the screen is captured after a countdown. This is useful when the thing to be captured only appears after a tap or a pause.

Captures can also be made with the standard Android button combinations, Volume Down with Power or Home with Power. The app supports these as well as its own controls, so the usual gesture still works.

Floating shutter and status bar controls

An on-screen shutter button sits on top of other apps and captures the screen at the moment it is pressed. Because it overlays every screen, it stays available while you are in another app.

Captures can also be started from the status bar notification area, so the screen can be recorded without opening the app first.

Browsing and managing saved screenshots

Saved screenshots can be viewed in a gallery grid, where several can be selected at once for managing. Each one can also be opened on its own in a single-screenshot view.

Together, the gallery and single view cover looking through a batch of captures and dealing with specific ones.
