What Weather Underground is for

Weather Underground is a weather app that leans on personal weather stations near you rather than only the airport stations many services use. The developer says its data comes from neighborhood points that fill the gaps between airports, so the readings reflect your street rather than the nearest runway.

It suits people who want conditions for their own location, whether that means rain totals, a drought, or a storm moving toward them.

Current conditions, forecasts and local data

Current readings come from the closest personal weather station. They include temperature with a Feels Like value, wind speed and direction, humidity, pressure, and the rain that has fallen so far today.

Forecasts run hourly and daily for up to 10 days, with chance of rain included. The app also shows a pollen forecast, the air quality index, the UV index, and sunrise and sunset times for your closest station.

Radar, satellite and map layers

The interactive map lets you switch between overlays of personal weather stations, Nexrad radar, NOAA imagery, satellite, heat and temperature maps, and rain accumulation. The developer also lists hi-res satellite and cloud cover imagery from GOES-16, plus local Doppler radar imagery.

Display settings include light and dark modes, several map types, and a choice of units.

Severe weather alerts and storm tracking

Alerts come from NOAA and can be customized, and they are tied to your position. The hurricane tracker and storm radar are meant for following larger systems as they develop.

Both use the same Nexrad radar data that powers the map layers.

Premium subscription features

Premium is an annual subscription that removes the ads. It adds Smart Forecasts, where you set the weather conditions you want for outdoor activities and the app says when to go, and extended hourly forecasts out to 15 days.

The subscription renews automatically. It is charged to your Google Play account at purchase and at each renewal, and you can cancel through your Google Play account settings at least 24 hours before the period ends.
