What YouTube TV is and who it suits

YouTube TV is a live television service that streams channels over the internet, so no cable box is needed. It works on smartphones, tablets, computers and TVs, which makes it a fit for households that want live channels without a cable subscription.

The membership is month to month and renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. It can be cancelled at any time, with no long-term contract or cancellation fee, and managed in Account Settings on the device.

Channels and networks included

The service carries more than 100 networks. Broadcast channels include CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS, and cable networks include NFL Network, HGTV and TNT, along with local sports and news channels in the listing's account.

Sports channels named in the listing include CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports RSN, Golf Channel and SEC Network. News channels include CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and HLN, and kids channels include Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and PBS Kids. Entertainment networks such as Food Network, Discovery, MTV and Comedy Central are also listed.

Recording shows with the cloud DVR

The cloud DVR stores recordings on the service rather than on a local box, and the listing says it has no storage space limits. Each recording is kept for 9 months.

Live TV can also be downloaded to watch and record, as part of the monthly membership.

Sharing one membership across a household

A household can have up to six YouTube TV accounts. Each person gets their own login, their own recommendations and their own DVR, so one person's recordings do not sit in another person's library.

Each account can be used on the same range of devices, which the listing gives as smartphone, tablet, computer and TV.

NFL Sunday Ticket on the service

YouTube TV is listed as the exclusive home of NFL Sunday Ticket, which covers out-of-market Sunday games. Locally broadcast Fox and CBS games, Sunday Night Football on NBC, select digital-only games and international games are excluded, and commercial use is excluded as well.
