Zepp

What the Zepp app is for

Zepp is the phone app that pairs with Amazfit smartwatches, bands and rings. It gathers what those devices record, such as steps, heart rate, sleep and workouts, and adds food logging on top. The developer aims it at athletes and people who train seriously, and says it is meant for general fitness and health management rather than as a medical device.

Training, sleep, heart data and meals all sit in one app, so they can be checked side by side. The listing says the data is stored on Amazon Web Services, encrypted, and never sold.

Logging meals from a photo

Take a picture of a meal and the app returns calories, weight and macronutrients for it. This works without a watch. You can log as many meals as you like, or type the food in by hand if that is quicker.

Sleep, heart and daily activity tracking

Sleep tracking splits the night into stages and reports duration, breathing and a recovery measure. The developer presents this as a way to judge whether a day calls for hard training or more rest. Daily steps, calories burned, blood oxygen and stress are recorded alongside.

The heart section collects heart rate, HRV and resting heart rate together. You can also type in blood pressure and blood glucose readings taken on other devices.

Training data, routes and watch notifications

Workouts record pace, distance, speed and strength logs, with recovery insights shown next to them. Running and cycling routes are tracked automatically, and local weather is displayed. Calls, texts and app notifications can appear on the watch, and call reminders are supported.

Watch updates, the Zepp Store and Zepp Aura

Firmware updates for the Amazfit device are installed through the app. The Zepp Store offers downloadable watch faces and mini apps. Workout data can be imported and exported, and workout photos can be saved.

Zepp Aura, the wellness coach, has a free core version. Premium adds in-depth health assessments, a personal wellness assistant and sleep music, sold as a monthly or yearly subscription billed through your Google account. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal, and any unused part of a free trial is forfeited once you buy.
