A chat app built on phone numbers
＋メッセージ（プラスメッセージ）is a messaging app from NTT DOCOMO that finds and reaches people using only a mobile phone number. It is aimed at DOCOMO subscribers and MVNO users on DOCOMO lines who want chat, stamps and media sharing with people in their contacts, without creating a separate account.
The app also has an SMS function, so text messages can still go out to people who do not use the service.
Sending photos, videos and stamps in chats
Chats support stamps, photos and videos, and group conversations with several people at once. A single message can carry photos or videos up to 100 MB. Contacts who show a profile icon in the address book can be messaged directly. A number that is not saved to contacts appears with an "unregistered" label, so you can tell it apart at a glance.
Read receipts show when the other person has opened the message screen. Sending media uses mobile data, and packet charges apply, so the listing suggests a packet flat-rate plan. When roaming abroad, you need to turn on a specific roaming setting in the app first, and automatic data updates during roaming can make packet costs much higher than in Japan.
Falling back to SMS for other numbers
If the person you message does not use the service, the message is sent and received as SMS text only, so stamps and media do not carry over. The listing says SMS use depends on your plan: an sp mode contract, an ahamo or irumo internet connection service, or an MVNO line on DOCOMO's network with SMS included.
Initial verification and some other functions need a mobile data connection.
Official business accounts and verified notices
Companies can run official accounts inside the app, and you can exchange messages with them. The listing says businesses use this to send important notices and to let customers handle procedures or ask questions. Official accounts display a verified mark that DOCOMO issues, showing the business has been checked by the carrier.
Using an official account requires a separate agreement with that company, made in the way the company sets. Changing carriers through number porting can cancel your registrations with official accounts.
