What Explorer is for
Explorer is a file manager for Android. It is aimed at people who want to organise the contents of their phone's internal storage and SD card, and reach files kept on cloud drives or on a network share from the same screen.
Each open tab can point at a different location, such as the phone's storage, an SD card, a Dropbox folder or an SMB share, so files can be compared or moved between them without leaving the app.
Finding and organising files on the device
Tabs switch between locations with a swipe or a tap. Bookmarks keep frequently used files and folders one tap away, and a search function looks for files by name.
Files and folders can be pinned to the home screen as shortcuts. Each file or folder shows its size, date and MD5 checksum in its properties, and "Open With" opens a file either as a generic type or in a specific app the user picks.
Working with cloud drives and network shares
Explorer connects to Google Drive, Box, Dropbox and network shares over SMB, so files on those services can be browsed alongside local storage.
Audio and video stored on network shares or in the cloud can be streamed to media player apps, so the file does not have to be copied to the device first.
Archives, background copying and sending files
Zip and tar archives can be created and extracted, and rar archives can be extracted. Long operations such as copying or moving files run in the background while the user does other things.
Files can be sent through email, Bluetooth and other sharing options from within the app.
Viewing text, databases and appearance
A built-in text editor opens text files directly, and a SQLite database viewer lets the user inspect database files without another app.
The interface comes in light and dark themes, or a theme that follows the home screen wallpaper. Icon sets can also be changed.
