The Galaxy Wearable app manages the wearable devices and gear series to phone.

Galaxy Wearable is a companion app that runs on your phone and links it to Samsung wearables. The listing names the Galaxy Watch, Gear S3, Gear S2, Gear Sport, Gear Fit2, Gear Fit2 Pro and Galaxy Buds as the supported devices. Its job is to handle setup and management from the phone side, so the watch itself stays paired and configured.
Every feature depends on the wearable being connected to the phone at the time. The listing says settings only appear while that connection is live, and that features may not work without a stable link between the two.
The build we hold is Galaxy Wearable 2.2.68.26010761 (APK) for Android 8.0 and up.

You install the app on the phone and then pair the wearable over Bluetooth. Once paired, the app lets you connect and disconnect the device from the phone without unpairing it.
Because the connection is what everything else runs on, a weak Bluetooth link affects every other feature in the app.
The app checks for and installs software updates for the paired wearable. It also holds the clock settings for the watch, so you change them on the phone rather than on the watch face.
Both tasks need the watch to be connected, so an update or clock change waits until the link is back.
Apps installed for the watch through Galaxy Apps are listed and managed inside Galaxy Wearable. You download them from here and adjust their settings from the phone.
The listing does not describe a separate app store on the watch, so the phone is the place where these installs and settings are handled.
Notification types and their settings are controlled from the app, so you decide what the watch alerts you about. The listing also includes Find my Watch, which is meant to help you locate a paired wearable.
Find my Watch and notification delivery both rely on the watch staying connected to the phone.
