Jigsort: Solitaire's latest update targets performance and smoothness

EasyFun Puzzle Game Studio's card-sorting picture puzzle is free to play with ads. The developer describes the new release as a performance and general experience update, with no new modes named.

A tune-up rather than new content

EasyFun Puzzle Game Studio is rolling out an update to Jigsort®: Solitaire, its puzzle game that turns jigsaw pictures into rows of cards. The developer's notes for the release say it brings improvements to performance and to the experience overall.

For players, that means this is maintenance work rather than a content drop. The notes don't name a new mode, event or level pack. The changes come in version 1.2.6, which is now available on Google Play.

Daily puzzles from an earlier release

The more substantial changes came in an earlier release. The developer's earlier release notes list a smoother interface, level and balance updates, a new Daily Challenge, updated limited-time events and improved data sync and progress backup. The iPhone version's notes describe the same set of changes, including upgraded data sync to better protect your progress.

Daily puzzles and rotating events are what bring players back to a game like this, so they are still the main things on offer in Jigsort for anyone picking it up now. The progress backup matters too, because without it a lost or replaced phone could mean starting over.

Sliding cards to rebuild a picture

Jigsort mixes a jigsaw puzzle with a card game. A picture is cut into pieces and shuffled. Players then slide and sort shuffled picture pieces, connect matching sections, and gradually reveal the complete image. According to the developer, when matching pieces touch, they snap together and can be moved as one group, so a board gets easier to handle as more of the picture comes together.

On the App Store listing, the developer pitches it as a blend of the strategic calm of classic Solitaire and the satisfaction of finishing a picture puzzle. The same listing says players can enjoy the full game and access all its puzzles even when you're offline.

It costs nothing to download, and the Google Play listing notes that it contains ads. The game carries a PEGI 3 rating.
