One number, several providers
Meta is splitting the WhatsApp Business account in two, and businesses that manage WhatsApp through Meta Business Suite will see it there. Where there used to be one WhatsApp section, Meta Business Suite shows two tabs: WhatsApp Accounts and Messaging Accounts, according to a guide from messaging provider BitByteCore.
The practical upshot is about who can send messages from a business number. Under the old setup, a number was tied to one integration. Under the new one, 360dialog's documentation says, one business phone number can work with several integrations at the same time, each with its own templates and billing, while customers still see a single brand and one conversation thread.
Meta calls the change WhatsApp Account Model Evolution, or WAME. Braze's documentation says the rollout began September 23, 2026, and that Meta migrates accounts automatically in stages, with all businesses reached by mid-October.
Two tabs where there was one
The split is simple on paper. The WhatsApp account holds one business phone number, your business profile and your catalogue, and later a business username, BitByteCore says. The Messaging account holds your message templates and your billing, including the payment method.
Each provider a business works with gets its own Messaging account. According to BitByteCore, that account is created automatically when the business finishes the sign-up, and both account names appear on the sign-up screens and in Business Suite. So a shop that uses one partner for marketing messages and another for customer support will see two Messaging accounts listed against the same number.
For anyone trying to work out which provider is connected to what, the Messaging Accounts tab is the place to check. It lists every connection, BitByteCore notes. Gupshup, another provider, gives an example of how this might look in practice: separate providers for marketing, utility and support messages, plus Meta's own tools, all while using the same WhatsApp phone number and unified customer conversation thread.
Templates do not travel between providers. Braze says templates aren't shared between Messaging accounts. Migrated templates reset to a baseline quality rating, and the ramp-up takes about 2–4 weeks. That is the part most likely to annoy a business mid-campaign.
Automatic, in stages, with some catches
Businesses do not need to do anything to trigger the change. Meta moves accounts over itself. Until it has, WhatsApp Manager and Meta Business Suite look the same as before, according to BitByteCore, so two businesses on the same app may see different screens for a while.
Existing setups are meant to keep working. Braze says the old WABA ID becomes your Messaging account ID, and existing integrations keep working. Gupshup says the updated accounts will appear on all Meta surfaces, including Meta Business Suite and WhatsApp Manager.
There are limits. Braze notes that messaging limits and throughput are shared across all partners on a number, and that moving a number between partners is no longer supported. Clients share their WhatsApp account instead. Template allowances also depend on verification: each Messaging account may hold 250 templates while the business portfolio is unverified, and up to 6,000 once it is verified and one of its numbers has an approved display name, BitByteCore says.
Meta has been preparing this for months. A Meta developer video dated 16 June 2026 introduced the architecture, with a Meta business engineer explaining how it lets a single phone number to be shared across multiple partners and integrations simultaneously while keeping billing separate. WhatsAble reports that a 22 September 2026 entry in Meta's developer changelog covered how Coexistence onboarding converts an existing account into a messaging account that keeps its ID.
A quieter run of app changes
The WhatsApp restructuring is the largest recent change to touch Business Suite. The app itself has picked up smaller additions over the year. In June, according to SocialBee's running log of Meta updates, Meta Business Suite has started allowing business owners to enable passkeys on their accounts.
In April, SocialBee reported that the app gained support for inviting collaborators for your Instagram Reels, and that Meta Business Suite now supports photo stickers in the Story builder. In January it added a shortcut to post stories to a Page by long-pressing media in the picker, SocialBee said.
On Android, the latest update to the app is version 571.0.0.56.104, now rolling out on Google Play.
Pages, Instagram and inbox in one place
Meta Business Suite is Meta's free management app for businesses on its platforms. It is for running a Facebook Page and a linked Instagram account from a phone: planning and scheduling posts and stories, answering messages and comments from a single inbox, and checking how posts and ads are doing.
According to Meta's listing, the inbox can send automated replies, and the app also handles notifications, a to-do list and calls to customers. The Messaging Accounts change matters most to the subset of users who also run WhatsApp through a business messaging provider.
