Termius makes its Android terminal keys bigger after redesign

The extra keys above the keyboard now have larger icons and labels, a follow-up to the reworked Android terminal. Termius has also set a 15 October cutoff for MultiKey, its team key-sharing tool.

Larger keys for touch typing

Termius has made the extra terminal keys in its Android app bigger. In its Android changelog, the developer says it has increased the size of icons and labels for additional terminal buttons in the terminal.

That strip of buttons is what most people use for anything a phone keyboard leaves out: Tab, Ctrl, Esc, the arrows. Bigger targets should mean fewer missed taps on a small screen. Nothing needs setting up. The change applies once the app is updated.

The changes come in version 7.11.2. Termius's Android changelog lists it under 12 October 2026, along with what the developer calls other stability improvements.

A follow-up to the new terminal

The tweak comes straight after a bigger rework. In the release before this one, Termius said the Android terminal has a fresh new look and improved experience. That release also brought a new keyboard add-on. According to the developer, it gives quick access to an additional keyboard, snippets, shell history, and appearance settings.

So the add-on now holds more than keys. Snippets are saved commands. Shell history brings back recent input without retyping it. Appearance settings sit next to them instead of being buried in a menu.

The same release fixed FIDO2 key generation on YubiKeys running firmware versions below 5.7, according to the changelog. That matters for anyone who signs in to servers with a hardware security key.

An earlier update changed how touch works in the terminal. Termius said it reworked terminal gesture handling. You no longer need to switch to a dedicated touch mode. Long press now activates arrow gestures.

How the keyboard add-on behaves

Termius's help pages describe how the pieces fit together. According to the developer, the keyboard add-on displays the three first groups of hotkeys from the Extended keyboard. So the order of groups in the extended keyboard decides what shows up in the strip.

The Hide Keyboard button can be removed from the add-on to make room for other keys, the help centre says. With a physical keyboard plugged in, the on-screen keyboard steps aside. Termius says it supports Bluetooth and USB-C keyboards on Android.

MultiKey cutoff for teams

Team users have a separate deadline to deal with. Termius's help centre says MultiKey will no longer be available after October 15, 2026. MultiKey was the tool for sharing access to a team's servers. The developer's advice is to move to SSH ID or another way of signing in.

Termius describes SSH ID as a passkey for SSH. According to its documentation, it creates a separate key on each device, including FIDO2 and biometric keys, and publishes the public keys at a single address. A server admin can pull every key for a person from that address into the server's authorised keys file in one go.

Moving over is a two-step job, according to the help centre. First, update each host's authorised keys file with teammates' SSH ID keys. Then every user switches each host they use from MultiKey to SSH ID and checks that the connection works. SSH ID needs a Termius account, which the developer says is used to sync public keys between devices.

Changes on iPhone too

The iOS app got its own terminal work in the same week. Termius's iOS changelog, dated 15 October 2026, announces a new terminal rendering engine, powered by libghostty, which the developer says is faster and more accurate. The same release fixed Mosh sessions hanging when several lines of text were pasted, according to the changelog. The Android notes do not mention the new engine.

SSH, SFTP and Mosh from a phone

Termius is a terminal app for connecting to remote machines: web servers, cloud instances, a Raspberry Pi in a cupboard. It handles SSH, SFTP for moving files, Telnet and Mosh. Hosts are saved with their addresses, ports and credentials, so connecting takes one tap rather than retyping it all each time.

On Android, the developer pitches it for doing real work on a small screen. The Play listing mentions a multi-tab interface and split-view support for running several sessions at once, themes and fonts that can be set for each connection, and saved commands and scripts that run with a tap. It is made by Termius Corporation, which also makes apps for iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux.
