What Toontastic 3D is for

Toontastic 3D is a cartoon maker. You place characters on a stage, move them around, and tell the story out loud while the app records your voice along with the animation. The listing presents it for children and families, and suggests subjects as varied as space adventures, news reports, video game designs and photo albums.

The output is a 3D video that stays on the device. Each story is a finished film you can replay, not a drawing or a slideshow.

Building characters and sets

A built-in library supplies pirates, transforming robots, villains and other characters, along with settings to put them in. You can also design your own characters with 3D drawing tools instead of using the library.

To put yourself into a story, add a photo and combine it with custom-colored characters. This is how a family member or a friend can appear as a character in the cartoon.

Recording narration, music and export

Recording happens while you move the characters, so your spoken narration and the on-screen action are captured together. The soundtrack is built from dozens of songs included in the app, which you can mix under the narration.

When a story is finished, it can be exported to your device's Photos library, where it can be shared with family and friends.

Story templates and ideas to start from

Three Story Arcs give a story its shape: Short Story, Classic and Science Report. Each one sets out a structure to follow, so you know roughly how the piece begins, develops and ends.

If you have no plot in mind, the idea lab offers stories, characters and settings that you can build on for new adventures.
