What Undercover is and who it suits
Undercover is a word game for groups. The developer calls it the official mobile version of the original Undercover word party game. The listing pitches it at parties, dinners, outings and work get-togethers, and compares it to social deduction games such as Werewolf, Codenames and Spyfall.
Everyone in a round gets the same secret word except for a few players. The group has to work out who is holding a different word.
How a round of word bluffing plays out
Each player describes their word without ever saying it. Players with the common word try to spot the odd ones out. Players with the different word try to blend in and stay in the game. The listing gives the goal as finding out who is who and staying in the game.
Because the word itself is off limits, every turn is a description the others have to interpret and test against what they know.
Offline mode and online mode
Offline mode runs on a single device. Everyone plays on the same phone, so all players must be physically together.
Online mode lets you play with friends or with players around the world. It requires an account and is for players aged 18 and over.
Word database and end-of-round rankings
The word list is a hand-picked database. The developer says it is built to keep everyone engaged whatever their interests.
At the end of each round, a real-time ranking shows how players compare, so you can see how your Undercover results stack up against friends.
